About Curtain Up!
Curtain Up! is a not-for-profit organization committed to bringing exceptional theatre arts programs to young children throughout the Bay Area, with a special emphasis on working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our theatre company is comprised of professional actors, teachers, musicians and dancers who all believe in the magic of the theatre and in sharing that magic with children (who are, naturally, the most magical of all).
Today, kids' lives are more jam-packed and pressurized than ever before and the world around them is increasingly chaotic and unpredictable. Curtain Up! provides a theatrical setting in which children can safely and freely give voice to an entire spectrum of feelings and learn how to channel those feelings into the creation of something artistic, beautiful, perhaps even inspired. Curtain Up! is committed to the idea that through constructive play and encouragement of creative expression -- by stretching their minds and their bodies -- children learn to recognize and trust their own unique voice. Finally, Curtain Up! is committed to teaching children to reach beyond the limits of what others think is true and to come up with their own ideas on how to approach the daily task of creating a happy, productive and useful life.
